6. Uniformes para no repetirnos: We are not Bride and Groom

We are not Bride and Groom
Todos Tus Vestidos (Ale Mizrahi y Pilar Talavera)
Hipocampo, Performance and videoart event, organized by TTV and La Felpa, La Felpa, 2011.

This performance piece works with time in a conditioned way. We are located one opposite the other, wearing a wig and clothes that are exactly alike. We are each holding an electric mixer in our hands that we place near the head of the other. Thus, the wig becomes entangled in the mixer, which in turn, chops off parts of the wig. The performance ends when there’s no more hair to cut and we’ve managed to tangle the wigs altogether.
Before we begin, and in order to complement the action we give the audience a piece of paper with different fragments of “The Lovers” by Elfriede Jelinek.
Thus, at the end of the action, looking at each other, we read disconnected pieces of this text as a dialogue, while aiming at each other with the mixers turned on as they drop pieces of chopped off hair.
The ideas around this piece are the impossibility of horizontal relations and the competition generated in this process of “absorption” of the other’s thoughts.
