4. Serie Home-Less: The Road

The Road (or How to get a Cupcake with your eyes closed)
Performance in Schloss Brollin, Summercamp Workshop IPAH, Germany, 2010.

I am standing at the edge of a stone wall. It’s raining. I cover my eyes with a white mask. I am wearing Dorothy’s distinctive red shoes from the movie “The Wizard of Oz”. I walk without seeing. I’ve placed little mounds of gummy bears at different points of my path so, when I step on them as I walk, and feel their texture, I bend down and eat them. Some of the bears are left intact. At the end of the path there’s a tree. When I hit it I try to find my hidden cupcake between its branches. I take off the mask, turn it over and cover my mouth with it. On this side, the mask has a small piece of cardboard that can be used to light matches. From one of my shoes I take out a birthday candle and from the other, a matchstick. I try to light the match but it’s raining and the mask is wet. When I realize I can’t do it I put the cupcake back in its place on the tree. In the end, I didn’t deserve the prize.
