How To Get Closer With Your Eyes Closed: The Grandmother Chapter.

The Homeless series is about leaving things behind, in different ways, by carrying out small rituals depending on the specific subject. Until now it had been about loneliness and alienation because I feel like I am really away from home. But this piece is the first of a series of goodbye rituals dedicated to the most influential women in my life. So this piece is for my grandmother. She was extremely aware of everything and had a very strong sense of smell because she was blind. She also kept a special box that was always locked and whose key she used to hide in her bra.

Description of performance: I am facing the audience and standing next to a table on my right side. On top of this table there’s raw food and a portable kitchen. The performance begins when a video is projected behind me. It shows interviews made to women of different ages in which they were asked to answer the following question: Imagine you are blind, could you please describe your favorite image ever?
While this video is being projected I am “blinding” myself with my own hair.
After the five-minute video I begin to cook a typical Peruvian dish with my eyes shut. The idea is to cook relying on my intuition, without seeing sizes and proportions, using the same senses that my grandmother had to employ.
When food is ready I serve the dishes and ring a bell asking people to come and eat. After this I take off the hair of my face and eat with the audience.
